Match of the Month
Christina Every Thursday around 6:00 pm Big Sister Christina picks up her Little Sister Kiarra and they usually spend several hours together. Christina always tries to make each week fun and entertaining. Kiarra really likes to go back to Christina's house and says, "I want to build a house in Christina's back yard so I can live there." Christina is very creative and embraces the opportunity to bring out Kiarra's creative side. Christina is teaching Kiarra how to make jewelry and earrings are her favorite thing to make. They also do a lot of cooking and try to find fun new recipes that they can try together.
September will be their three year anniversary, and the two really have a sisterly bond!! As soon as I saw them, they both had a smile from ear to ear and you could tell from the laughter that filled the room that the two are meant to be together. Kiarra feels that the most rewarding experience in being a Little is just getting to do everything with Christina. She says the best thing about Christina is that she makes her laugh and they do craft projects together.
Christina said that it is very rewarding being a Big Sister and it has taught her to embrace her inner child. It's nice getting Kiarra's point of view on different life experiences. Sometimes when she is having a difficult time making a decision, she will ask Kiarra's advice and get a child's point of view. Christina loves Kiarra's bubbly personality and her energy. Being around Kiarra cheers her up. Recently, Christina was ill and felt so bad she wanted to stay in bed and didn't think she could visit Kiarra. She soon realized that visiting Kiarra was one of her best medicines, just being in her presence made her feel better.
Christina has touched Kiarra's life in so many ways. Kiarra is more creative and has learned how to handle problems with her peers a lot better. Christina said, "There is no bad part to being a Big Sister, everything is rewarding." A while back Kiarra had to have her tonsils out and for a surprise Christina went around to secondhand stores and bought furniture, refinished it, and completely redecorated her room. Kiarra was very surprised.
Whether they are swimming, doing crafts, cooking, walking the dogs, looking for shells at the river, feeding the ducks, or at the park, you will find the two of them laughing and having a blast. Kathy, Kiarra's mother, said that she is very happy with the match. Christina has made a huge difference in Kiarra's life and by including Kiarra's little brother occasionally has helped him also. Kathy said, "We love and appreciate her."
